Chlorine Test Strips, 2000ppm, 100/Pk

Daycare regulations in many jurisdictions require tests for both sanitizing & disinfecting solutions; these 0-2000ppm chlorine strips can measure both.

Click on "Cleaning up Norovirus" & you'll find the link to the radio broadcast. You'll also find our blog Nasty Norovirus a useful read for doing dilutions correctly.

The color chart has ranges for sanitization (50-200ppm) & disinfection (500-800ppm). 800ppm is considered the maximum level for child safety in the event of ingestion.

You can use our bleach dilution calculator to correctly calculate the amount of bleach & water needed to prepare the ppm levels indicated above. This calculator will allow for any concentration of chlorine bleach to be used to prepare a sanitizing/disinfecting solution but in this instance the video shows an 8.25% solution diluted to produce 650ppm (the midway point of 500-800ppm for disinfection as shown on the color chart).

You may also want to look at the following 2 pdf files from the State of California for "Sanitize Safely & Effectively" & "What is Safe & Effective Use of Bleach"

Note(1): If vial is properly stoppered, strips have a 2 year shelf life.

Note(2): These strips measure free (available) chlorine

Note(3): The number of strips per pack or vial is approximate.

The following table shows how much bleach is needed to make up different concentrations of disinfectant based on an initial concentration of 5% (most store bought bleach sold in North America is rated at 5.25% but loses strength with time).

  1. Choose a container large enough to hold the final amount of diluted bleach you want to make.
  2. Measure & pour into the container the amount of 5% (initial) chlorine bleach you need.
  3. Fill the container with water to the level of the Final Volume.
  4. For concentrations other than 5%, use our Bleach Dilution Calculator to determine what you need.
  5. If you are unfamiliar with millilitres (mL), you can use this Metric to American volume converter.
  6. If you don't have the exact measuring tool, round up not down. i.e. for 47.5ml use a 1/4 cup.
