A little background and history of Viagra

Viagra (sildenafil citrate), the “little blue pill” is perhaps the best known of the erectile dysfunction drugs, the other popular ones being Cialis & Levitra. Known for it’s humorous commercials of older men dancing in public, the drugs initial discovery wasn’t even to treat erectile dysfunction. In 1989 British scientists from Pfizer discovered the drug sildenafil citrate in hopes of it treating high blood pressure and angina. 

It wasn’t until the early 1990’s where trials began to show little use of it treating heart related diseases. However, volunteers were noticing increased erections days after being administered a dose! You could say the rest was history and by 1998 the FDA approved Pfizer’s Viagra to treat erectile dysfunction.
