Steel and Aluminum Tuning Fork Comparison

This image shows 2 tuning forks, one made from high quality spring steel on the left and the other aluminum. Note the difference in the gap between the two tines at the top and bottom of the aluminum fork, indicative of low accuracy. The steel fork has an accuracy of better +/- 0.05Hz (better than 0.01% for a 512Hz fork) and is guaranteed for life if used properly. Most aluminum forks are accurate to +/-0.5% & and rarely come with any warranty. Click here for a more detailed explanation of accuracy.
