We recommend the pH 5-9 strips for 2 different applications. You can use them in place of red litmus paper which turns blue in alkaline solution or blue litmus paper which turns red in acid solution. Why use 2 different papers when one will give you a positive result every time?

The other application is testing alkaline or ionized water. Freshly distilled water is pH 7.0 (neutral) but absorbs atmospheric CO2 (carbon dioxide) on exposure to air and turns it weakly acidic. If you are buying alkaline water or ionized water be sure to test it regularly since unscrupulous vendors may sell you old stock that is no longer alkaline. Because water is a very weak solution, you should keep them immersed for 10-30 seconds to ensure an accurate response.

Use these strips before you buy any device which claims to produce alkaline water. Unethical vendors use doctored test strips that indicate alkaline where ours won't. You can prove ours work simply by dipping them in lemon juice for acid or ammonia ("Windex") for alkaline or just add a spoonful of either to a glass of ionized/alkaline water and see what happens.

What's the worst than can happen? If we're wrong, you're out a few dollars for test strips. But, if we're right, you might avoid spending $1000's on something that doesn't really work.

Note(1): The number of strips per pack or vial is approximate.

Note(2): You can use the 5-9 strips for urine/saliva but because these strips only measure in steps of 1, the acid base strips pH 4.5-10.0 are better since they measure in increments of 0.5.
