Body Level pH Indicators for Urine, Saliva
If you are concerned about the pH of the food you eat & its affect on you, these are the strips for you.
These high contrast pH strips are easy to read and give results in seconds whether you are testing urine or saliva. They can be
used to determine if the food you eat is having any effect or help detect potentially serious ailments.
The natural pH level of blood is 7.4 (7.35-7.45) although 7.2-7.6 may occur under heavy exercise or
unusal dietary conditions. This level is very tightly controlled due to its importance in cell metabolism.
A very good discussion of this can be found at: body pH.
This means your body will eliminate excess acid or base which can be seen by a much wider fluctation in urine pH levels. A heavy meat
diet, for example, is believed to produce a higher amount of acidic residue than a vegetarian diet for example. Record your readings and the
food you ate to see if there is any correlation. The readings will likely fluctuate depending on what you eat.
However, a consistently low (~5.5) or consistently high (~8.0) pH may indicate a medical problem. Log your results and try to take at least
10 measurements to see if there is any trend. If you see a consistently low or high measurement, independent of the food you eat, consult a medical doctor.
Similarly, the pH of saliva is also tightly controlled in the range of pH 6.3-6.7. This is important for the health of
your teeth, mouth lining (mucosa), etc. Testing salivary pH should be done with the same care as urine. Do it before eating,
otherwise you may simply be testing the pH of your food (floss regularly). If the pH readings are consistently above or below
the ideal range, consult a physician as this could be indicative of a medical condition that requires intervention.
Note(1): The number of strips per pack or vial is approximate.
Note(2): These strips can also be used to test "alkaline/ionized water" if you only want to buy 1 type of test strip.
Test Specifications; How to Use
- Dip strip in solution for 1-2 seconds; compare to color chart
- Solutions must be aqueous (water based)
- For soaps, wet the strip first; oils cannot be tested
- Deeply colored solutions can cause inaccurate readings
- 2+ year shelf life if kept sealed & out of direct sunlight
- Papers are non-bleeding so can be dipped for several minutes
