pH 1-14 Test Papers for Science Fair Experiments
The wide range, pH 1-14 test strips have 2 important but very different applications.
They only measure in pH 1 step increments and are best used when you have absolutely no idea whether your solution is
acid or base.
Use them first to determine which of our 5 other acid or base test strips you should use to measure more accurately,
in 0.5 pH steps.
These are ideal for science fair demonstrations if want to compare the pH of many different foods or drinks. They are also
perfect for showing that the pH scale is logarithmic. In other words, you can take a strong acid like HCl or strong base
like NaOH & dilute by a factor of 10 which will change the pH by "1".
These pH test strips feature a triple pad on each measuring stick. This is to ensure the best contrast & color comparison
under different lighting conditions. Only one of the pads changes at any given pH level but because color change can be
subtle & appear different under sunlight, fluorescent or incandescent lamps, the other 2 non-changing pads act as reference points.
This can be especially useful for science fair displays in school gymnasiums or tests done on kitchen countertops in the evening
or winter where sunlight is unavailable.
Note: The number of strips per pack or vial is approximate.
Test Specifications; How to Use
- Dip strip in solution for 1-2 seconds; compare to color chart
- Solutions must be aqueous (water based)
- For soaps, wet the strip first; oils cannot be tested
- Deeply colored solutions can cause inaccurate readings
- 2+ year shelf life: keep sealed & out of direct sunlight
- Papers are non-bleeding so can be dipped for several minutes
