Copper and Zinc Electrodes
| |||||||||||||||||||||||
| The copper and zinc electrodes are the most popular and are used in making batteries out of lemons,
some fruit juices and vegetables such as potatoes and pickles. Pennies and zinc plated nails can be used in place of the electrodes but they have a much smaller surface area. The copper & zinc electrodes have ~5000mm2 of surface area which is roughly 8.5 times that of a penny. So, you will need many pennies and nails connected together to get the same amount of current. Note: You need one alligator clip per electrode to connect to a multimeter or led. |
