Orbit "Wobbly" Bonds
Orbit "wobbly" are flexible enough to accomodate non-VSEPR atom geometries but are made
from special vinyl tubing to ensure durability for repeated assembly and disassembly.
For most models, we recommend 20mm (2cm) bonds for C-H & 30mm (3cm) for C-C. In the image below, because there are no hydrogen
atoms being used, we have opted for 20mm lengths for single bonds & 35mm for the double/triple bonds to create a more compact model.
50mm (5cm) bonds are mainly used in the graphite model
to represent Van der Waals forces & are flexible enough at this length to allow the different layers to shift (or "wobble") slightly.
Diamond, however, can use 20,25, 30 or even 35mm bonds &
will still produce a very rigid model. |
