Lenz's Law: Eddy Current Demonstration

This kit provides an excellent demonstration of Lenz's Law. The 30cm (12") copper tube has a windowed groove down the side that permits observation of the descending magnet or slug. Observe the effects of eddy currents as the magnet floats downwards, apparently defying gravity. Then drop a slug of similar mass & aerodynamic characteristics to confirm that it is not air resistance causing the effect.

For a very accentuated effect, try a 25x10mm neodymium disk magnet and drop it down a 1" diameter copper tube. The gap between the magnet & tube is very small which causes the magnet to drop very slowly.
